Effective May 23, 2026

These terms (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Home Inspection Board (“HIB”) website, certification courses, and related services (together, the “Services”). By creating an account, purchasing a course, or otherwise using the Services, you agree to these Terms.

Enrollment and access

Purchase of the HIB Certification Program grants you lifetime online access to the course materials, quizzes, and final exam, subject to these Terms. Access is personal to you and may not be shared, transferred, sold, or otherwise made available to anyone else. We may suspend or terminate access if we believe you have shared your account or otherwise violated these Terms.

Certification

To earn the HIB Certified Home Inspector designation, you must (a) complete all ten course modules and pass each module quiz at 80% or higher, (b) pass the comprehensive final exam at 80% or higher, and (c) sign the digital Declaration of Oath. Certificates are issued in PDF form and may be retrieved at any time from your account dashboard.

HIB certification is provided as a course-completion credential. It is your responsibility to verify whether HIB certification meets any specific state, county, or municipal licensing requirements that may apply to home inspection work in your jurisdiction. HIB does not represent that this certification satisfies any specific governmental licensing requirement.

Use of course materials

All course content — including video, text, quiz questions, illustrations, and templates — is owned by HIB and protected by copyright. You may use the materials for your own personal study and reference. You may not copy, distribute, republish, sublicense, or use the materials to develop competing training products.

Payments and refunds

All purchases are processed in U.S. dollars by Stripe. Refunds are available under the conditions described in our Refund Policy.

Disclaimers

The Services are provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied. HIB does not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that defects will be corrected. HIB is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use of the Services or the course materials.

Inspection liability

The HIB course is an educational product. Successful completion of the course does not transfer liability for any home inspection you perform to HIB. As a working inspector, you remain solely responsible for the conduct of your inspections, the accuracy of your reports, and any contractual obligations to your clients. HIB recommends every working inspector carry adequate errors-and-omissions and general liability insurance.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, share your account, or attempt to redistribute course content. In such cases, no refund will be issued.

Changes

HIB may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Services after a change constitutes acceptance.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any dispute will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in the United States.

Important — not an official government board

The Home Inspection Board (HIB) is a private, independent training organization. We are not a federal, state, county, or municipal agency, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated under the authority of any government body.

Our use of the word “Board” in our name reflects our role as an independent certifying body for the curriculum we deliver. It does not imply governmental status, regulatory authority, or official accreditation by any public agency.

HIB certification is a course-completion credential. Whether home inspection licensing is required in your state, county, or city is determined by your local government — not by HIB. It is your responsibility to verify and comply with the licensing requirements that apply where you intend to work.
